ANDREW JACKSON (“Jack”) MABRY
Andrew Jackson (“Jack”) Mabry was born on 9 October
1832
in what is now known as Carroll County, Virginia. This county was carved out of Patrick County. (The place where the Mabry family
lived in
Carroll County was still there; the old water mill and parts of the
place
remained at the time of the writing of Emery Horton’s book in
1979.) Jack’s parents were John Mabry and
Nancy
Dalton Mabry.
Jack Mabry and two of his brothers, Calvin and Levi,
left
Virginia about 1850-1855. Their
parents remained in Carroll County, VA.
The brothers came on foot to what is now Elliott County, Kentucky
and
settled in the area now known as Laurel.
They are found listed in the 1870 census of Elliott County. They lived in the Laurel area and
raised
their families there. They were
carpenters, blacksmiths, and farmers.
In reason they had to do this to exist for they carved out of the
wilderness a place to raise their families.
ELIJAH MABRY
Elijah was born on 29 April 1861 and died on 3
December
1929. He was married to Ruhamah
Edens
on 29 April 1884.
THE EDEN AND CARTER FAMILIES
The Eden Family and Carter Family relation can be
traced
to Virginia.
