The NeoMecs SC System II EPTM is a field-deployable instrument for on-line monitoring of pollutants (pesticides, VOCs, and SVOCs) in ground water. It consists of two integrated components: a) Membrane Concentrator; and b) Spectroscopic Detector. The concentrator uses selective permeation through a plasma-modified membrane to remove pesticides from water and increase their concentration in an extracting solvent ("extractant") by factors as large as 10,000. Thus, PPB levels are brought up to the PPM range for easier detection and measurement by existing equipment and techniques. The concentrator and detector are coupled through an optical cell through which the extractant flows and interacts with light from a laser source, using absorbance (UV or IR) or spectral frequency shifts (Ramon spectrosopy) as the measurement method. Aggregate concentrations of chemicals are calculated from absorbance values, while spectra are displayed on the PC terminal.
