I composed these poems using several socialist
texts on consumerism, and although I was led in
several unexpected directions by
the material, I believe a good part of that
"theme" remains to color the
proceedings. We are all living through times in
which the
banal horror of the "Spectacle" has
replaced experience and connection with mere
hunger and satiation. The Age of the Hive Mind
is upon us. In this era of lockstep mania, the
promotion and disposal of passing sensation is
at the core of human existence. It IS
human existence for all real purposes. These
poems maybe are not part of any wished for
solution, but they do strive to describe in
part the obsessional delirium which is Progress.
I dedicate this volume to my wife, Theresa
Nyberg, who introduced me to the ideals of
Socialism, and - although I tend
to advocate
Anarchism instead - Socialism remains one of the
few summits from which the true freak show that
is modern capitalism can
be observed.
