There is a bear secreted backstage – or at least the silhouette of a bear – and it eats the actors’ shadows upon the curtain as it enters their heads as one enters a dim hotel room looking for an hourglass full of tubas. The bear is known to the other constellations as a Romantic sugar cube giving off sparks shaped like babies’ faces. What does one say to such a beast given the times. “You are like a woman I once admired for her temerity.”
